The overnight ferry to Tassie was overall quite an enjoyable experience. We ate dinner at the buffet, then went to the on board cinemas to watch a flick (I can’t remember the last time I went to the movies!). The ride became a bit bumpy as we entered the strait but nothing we couldn’t sleep though!

Getting off the ferry we bolted straight for Launceston as we had the car booked for a service. We spent the day wandering around the city checking out a number of interesting vintage shops as we went and ended up at James Boag for a beer. We picked up the car then headed to Cataract Gorge. WOW was this spot speccy. There was a swimming pool overlooking a lake and a chairlift soaring above. We had a swim in the pool then did a walk around the cliffs of the gorge. It is truely a spectacular place.

The next day we checked out a waterfall (which would be the first of many), then did a zip lining tour through the forest. It was so much fun soaring through the trees and was actually the same zip lining place that Mum, Megan and myself went on during our family trip to Tassie.
Next we headed to Ben Lomond which is a famous ski mountain. There wasn’t any snow when we visited but we hiked to the top of the tallest mountain in Tasmania (which was actually really easy seeing as you drive most of the way up). The views were spectacular and driving the famous Jacob’s Ladder was epic.
From here we headed to the Weld River, famous for its sapphires. We camped on the banks and tried our luck at fossicking in the river. Rein’s rule was that if we found a sapphire he’d turn it into a ring that he’d propose with. Alas, we searched and searched but had no luck, we suspect as the river had been pretty well dug already. I suppose I’m just gonna have to wait a bit longer for that ring (eye roll lol).
After checking out some big trees and more cool waterfalls, we headed to the famous Bay of Fired coast. It was nice, but unfortunately the weather was a bit drizzly so it wasn’t quite the white sands crystal clear water like the pictures. We reconed Esperance and Albany are better anyways. This trip really is making us realise how lucky we are in WA!!
Despite the cold weather, we still made sure to try the berry ice cream we’d been seeing everywhere. You pick your berry and they blend this fresh and mix it into soft serve. I had raspberry and Rein had mulberry. They were INCREDIBLE.

Stay tuned as we do the south-east corner.
